Fred Ajanogha, also known as Ajano, is a well accomplished sculptor. He was born in 1958, to the late Sunday and Rebecca Ajanogha, and is the oldest of nine children. He discovered early on that he had a natural talent for art and that he wanted pursue a career as a professional sculptor. To broaden his scope, he attended the Creative Art Academy, which was located in Benin City in Nigeria, under the direction of Mr. Doran Door. He also spent time in the studios of many well-known contemporary Nigerian artists, including the late Mr. Felix Idubor and Mr. Ben Osawe. Mr. Ajanogha credits these Benin City artists with inspiring him and paving the way for him to pursue sculpture as a career.
Since beginning his professional career, Mr. Ajanogha has created works in Nigeria, Ghana, and throughout the United States. He was commissioned by the 1996 Olympic Committee to craft sculptures for over 70 distinguished guests of the games. Mr. Ajanogha was proud to be commissioned by the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to sculpt the bronze relief of Maynard Jackson. This was done in accordance with the renaming, and rededication, of the airport. This piece is seen by millions of travelers annually as they exit the main security screening area.
The majority of Mr. Ajanogha’s public art pieces can be found in, and around, Atlanta Georgia. His art work is on permanent display at the Atlanta Beltline, Apex Museum, The Atlanta University Center, Grady High School, Bessie Branham Park & Recreation Center, H.J.C. Bowden Senior Facility, and the Roswell Riverwalk Trail. Many of his life-sized works can be found on display at Southern University Museum of Art in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and at the Tubman Museum in Macon, Georgia. In addition, other works are located in the notable private collections of former President Jimmy and Roslyn Carter and the late Maya Angelou.
Fred Ajanogha currently resides in Atlanta Georgia. When he is not honing his craft in the studio, he enjoys spending time with his family, classic Western movies, and traveling the country.
